Still House Pond

Still House PondBook Description:  Lilly Gray Corbett loves living on Troublesome Creek, but she would much rather play with her best friend than watch her little brother and the twins. Her mama, Copper, is often gone helping to birth babies, and Lilly has to stay home. When Aunt Alice sends a note inviting her to visit in the city, Lilly is excited to go, and Copper reluctantly agrees to let her. Later, when they hear the news that the train crashed, Copper and her husband, John, rush to find out if their daughter is injured . . . or even alive.

My Review:  Jan Watson is a new author for me but one that I will be on the look out for.  Still House Pond is actually the second book in the Troublesome Creek Series.  Sweetwater Run is the first book and is about Lilly's mom and Darcy's mom, the two main heroines in Still House Pond.
Lilly has a kind heart and can't bear to see anyone unhappy or for an animal to suffer.  Her aunt longs for Lilly to come to the big city and visit her but Copper, Lilly's mom, isn't quite ready for her tween daughter to go off by herself.
After much discussion Lilly's parents decide that she may go visit her aunt.  Lilly, not wanting to be babied talks her mom into letting her walk with Darcy to the railroad station. The train Lilly is riding on has a tremendous wreck.  Her parents have no news of her and her mother becomes frantic.  So, off her parents go to find Lilly.  However, there is not a sign of Lilly anywhere.
Jan Watson has penned a fabulous story about Lilly intertwining Darcy's life into the story also.  The love for human life and taking care of the weak are issues that are woven throughout the story.
After reading Still house Pond I realized why the author titled the book so .... a fantastic read that you'll not want to miss!  And yes, this book is a great stand-alone read without reading Sweetwater Run you'll not be lost.

*I reviewed this book for Tyndale Publishing*
