I love children's books. Maybe it's the pictures, maybe it's the easy reading or maybe it's because children's books seem to have a lesson within a story. My favorite children's book is written by Angela Elwell Hunt and is entitled The True Princess. This book also has great illustrations by Diana Magnuson. The story is actually a parable. The little girl in the story is a princess but through hardships and life lessons she learns the meaning of serving others and becoming a true princess. This isn't just a "girly" book it's a great story for boys too. I know because I've read it to my young son and he enjoys the story and understands the parable. If you get a chance, check it out at the library or order it as a gift from Amazon.

FUN FRIENDS TO CHECK OUT: Bloggin' Buds
When I was in grade school, we use to get a children's magazine at school call Weekly Reader. Once in a while you could order books from them. One year my mom allowed me to order a book. It was called Baby Island by Carol Ryrie Brink. It is about two young girls (one named Mary)who end up in a lifeboat with four babies. They land on an island and the rest is about their adventures. I love that book and if I see one at a second hand store I buy it. I like giving them away to girls at church or nieces. I still have the original.
ReplyDeleteI remember reading a Ramona Quimbly book to you when you were in second grade - lots of laughs for both of us! I still have "Love You Forever" that you gave to me after you became a teacher. :) Thanks again.
