Mornings and Evenings with Spurgeon

C.H. Spurgeon was a baptist pastor who lived between 1834 and 1892. By God’s grace Spurgeon was a faithful evangelist and preacher during his lifetime and since then has had an impact on many modern Reformed Evangelicals through his written sermons and books.

Book Description:  Mornings and Evenings is a collection of Spurgeon’s meditations on Scripture which comprises of a Bible verse and devotional thought for the morning and evening of every day for a whole year. Rightly termed a “classic devotional,” it is full of rich Scriptural meditations that can evoke joy in Christ and sorrow at sin. Full of verse and poetic language, this book has often been a joy to read and points us to to the Word of God, and His Son, Jesus Christ. Like any book (except the Bible), it isn’t perfect but it’s still recommended reading!

My Review:  Charles Spurgeon was a prolific author and pastor who lived from 1834-1892, "Mornings & Evenings" is a 768, softbound, 5.5 x 8.5, book that opens flat, to help one start each morning, with a personal devotional time. A devotional on one page for the morning and then the next page has a devotional for the evening.  This makes having devotions easier and the content of the devotions is most inspiring.  After reading the devotions I have been encouraged and uplifted in my faith.  Charles Spurgeon was known as the Prince of Preachers and knowing this I knew that this book would be most beneficial to my daily devotions. And I haven't disappointed.
The paper of this nice softback book is like the paper of a Bible, it's nice and gives you that "I must be careful" feeling.  Even though I have used a Bible marked to highlight important thoughts and it's been fine.  There are also daily Bible readings at the top of the page that correspond to the devotional.  It makes for a nice way to read through the Bible in a year and to study the Bible.
This is not a humorous or "light" read but is full of thought provoking scriptures and messages.  This is truly a devotional read for those who enjoy thinking and delving in the Word.
This makes a wonderful gift book or just a fantastic 5 star devotional for your personal use.

*I received this book free from the publisher, New Leaf Press.
I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.*
