My Review:  The book of Psalms in the Old Testament has long been a favorite book of mine.  I love to read it when I need encouragement, an "uplifting" in my spirit or words of wisdom for a friend in despair.
I was excited to review this study guide in the Life Change Series:  A life-changing encounter with God's Word from the book of PSALMS.  The book begins with a short chapter on how to use this study.  Then there are ten lessons in which you are given scriptures in Psalms to study.  There is a place to write your thoughts after given questions in the book.  This study guide is great for personal use but can also be used in a small group study.  After each lesson small group questions are given for discussion.
I found this study to be a nice study for understanding the Psalms.  It is not a study for each chapter in Psalms.  In fact, the first lesson begins with Psalms 19:1-6:  Prayers of Worship and Praise, then proceeds to take you through the whole 19th chapter.
Lesson 2 is a mixture of verses from Psalms and John:  Prayers of Confessions and Acknowledgement.
Lesson 3 is a study of Prayers of Intercession and Supplication, A study of Psalm 5:1-3, Psalm 21: 1-2, Psalm 91: 14-16 and Psalm 102:16-17.
Lesson 4 is a study of Prayers of Protection and Deliverance {I enjoyed this lesson immensely!}, Psalm 28:1-2, Psalm 3:1-4, Psalm 18:1-3Psalm 31:1-3 and Psalm 46:1-3 are used in this study.
Lesson 5 studies Prayers of Vindication and Forgiveness.  Psalm 73:1-11, Psalm 73:12-15, Psalm 73:16-20and Psalm 73:21-28 are used in this study.
Lesson 6 is Prayers of Renewal and Restoration using Psalm 23:1-3, Psalm 23:4, Psalm 23:5 and Psalm 23:6,
Lesson 7 is a great study on Prayer:  Looking to the Past, Planning for the Future.  Psalm 90:1-6, Psalm 90:7-9, Psalm 10-12, and Psalm 90:13-17 are the scriptures used in this study.
Lesson 8 is the study of Prayer the Apparent Silence of God.  Psalm 10:1-2, 17-18; Psalm 13:1-6;Psalm 22:1-2and Psalm 50:3-5 are studied in this lesson.
Lesson 9 Prayer and Waiting on the Lord.  Psalm 27:13-14, Psalm 40:1-3, Psalm 37:3-7, and Psalm 20-22 are studied in this lesson.
Lesson 10 is a study of Prayers of Reward and Thanksgiving. Psalm 37:3-5, Psalm 58:11, Psalm 100:5, and Psalm 107:8-9 are linked together in this study.
At the ending of the book there is a list of commentaries on Psalms, concordances, dictionaries, map, Bible atlases and so much more that can enhance your study.  This is a small book loaded with a wealth of information on the book of Psalms!  A 5 star study guide for those who want to study parts of Psalms!

  1. I like the idea that it doesn't cover all the Psalms...I will be studying the Psalms (some) this year with CBS, but I'd really like this book, esp lesson 9.
