The Anonymous Bride by Vickie McDonough (Texas Boardinghouse Brides)

 Back of Book:  How many brides does one man need?  It's been years, but Luke Davis is back-older and wiser-and still alone.  Returning as Lookout's new town marshal.  Luke is determined to face the past and move on.  Rachel has carried guilty shame for eleven years.  Her marriage to James Hamilton was not what Luke or the town thought it to be.  Now James is dead, and Luke is back. Could they possibly find love a second time? Rachel begs his forgiveness, but Luke finds he has none to give.

And then the brides arrive.  Three of them-ordered for Luke through newspaper ads by his incorrigible cousins.  The only place in town for them to stay is Rachel's boardinghouse.  And none of the ladies is willing to let go.  When choosing a bride becomes a contest, the chaos is almost funny.  When the mayor forces Luke to pick a bride or lose his job, will Luke listen to his heart that still  longs for Rachel or choose one of the mail-order brides?

My Review:  This is the first book that I had the pleasure to read by Vickie McDonough.  I love the way she begins the story-"Sometimes God asked difficult things of a man, and for Luke Davis, what he was fixing to do was the hardest task ever." Since I  live in Texas I enjoy reading "the way we talk" cuz, as you know, we Texans are always "fixing" to do something.  Anonymous Bride is a fun, sometimes cackle out-loud kind of read.   You'll enjoy reading about Lookout, Texas and all the misadventures of Rachel, Luke, Jack (aka- Jacqueline), and the mail order brides.  Rachel longs for something she thinks she can't have.  Luke doesn't know he what wants but his cousins help by giving him a none to gentle push to get on with his life.  And Jack is trying to keep them all in line.  This is a book y'all should read! I enjoyed this book and look forward to Book 2 in the fall.  It's a definite 5 star read!
